The iPACES Main Study for Adults

The iPACES Main Study is our primary research program, and it serves as the entry point for all participation in iPACES research. We currently have one Main Study and one sub-study within it — our Parkinson’s disease study. Everyone must first apply to and enroll in the Main Study before becoming eligible to apply to a sub-study.

The goal of this research is to learn how different combinations of physical and cognitive exercise can best support brain health. In particular, we are studying the effect of our interactive Physical and Cognitive Exercise System (iPACES) — a “pedal-n-play” neuro-exergame that blends pedaling exercise with on-screen cognitive challenges. Participants virtually ride through scenic environments while completing tasks designed to support areas of thinking such as memory and attention.

If you join the study, you will be asked to use iPACES regularly over the course of one year and complete periodic activities. These include cognitive exercises (such as brief brain teasers or memory tasks), questionnaires about your health and exercise habits, and iPACES exercise sessions with feedback from a virtual coach. All activities use your own mobile device (typically a smartphone).

To apply, you will answer some questions, sign a consent form, and create an iPACES account by providing an email and password. Participants must be 18 years or older. Once you are enrolled in the Main Study and complete the initial steps, you may be able to apply to a sub-study that matches your health profile (for example, our Parkinson’s disease study).
